Accessible Services Advisory Committee

The Accessible Services Advisory Committee (ASAC) was formed to advise Triangle Transit staff in the implementation of accessible transit services, to include paratransit services, fixed route bus services, rail station design, transit amenities, and transit information. The advisory committee is comprised of twelve members appointed by the Triangle Transit Board of Trustees.

The ASAC is made up of a diverse membership with the interest, experience and demonstrated commitment in issues pertaining to access and disability.

ASAC meetings are held in March and September of each year during weekday hours at the Administrative Offices of Triangle Transit, 4600 Emperor Blvd, Suite 100, Durham, NC 27703. The meetings are open to the public.

TRANSIT MANAGER’S REPORT March 5, 2013

Welcome New Operators: Ali Ismail, Dennis Peterson, and Nita Purdie

Operations Overview: Budgeted for 17 FT & 7 PT vs. Actual of 14 FT & 4 PT

Performance Report:

  • 6 new vehicles for a total of 16 in the fleet
  • Orange County Transit Plan – voters in November approved the half-cent sales tax
  • Orange County and Chapel Hill Transit are engaged in a study of consolidated services
  • The January 2013 Paratransit Employee of the Month was Larry Tolbert. The February EOM was Mike Hutchinson.
  • We have been working with the NC Department of Labor for recognition in its STAR Safety Program.
  • Outreach Initiatives:

  • Durham ACCESS: Working on FY14 Budget and looking at mixed fleet inventory
  • We will participate in the Foundation Fighting Blindness Event in Raleigh (Saturday, March 23 @ Royal Banquet & Conference Center on Hillsborough St. (10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon)

  • The GOLD Coalition has expressed concerns about Medicaid cuts
  • Orange County Disability Awareness Council Banquet
  • Provided T-linx Service Report to Triangle Transit Operations & Finance Committee
  • Raleigh Union Station Public Info Session on March 6, 2013 at Duke Center for the Performing Arts, Downtown Raleigh
  • FY 2013 Highlights:

  • Paratransit Office Expansion
  • Fleet Expansion – Added 6 new light transit vehicles (LTVs) – 16 vehicles
  • Looking for a dedicated facility for T-linx operations
  • Accessible Services Advisory Committee (ASAC) – looking for new and diverse members
